Elephants, Jaipur

Our auto driver took us to hang out with elephants.  They each had a handler feeding them hay and cilantro.  Each is female; our driver told us that females and males are only allowed to see each other once a year during "sex power," which we translated as "mating season."  The elephant on the far left in the bottom picture is pregnant--they're pregnant for a year and a half.  Is that true?
I snuck out the side door for a minute because some neighborhood kids wanted their picture taken.  Then they wanted rupees and school pens, then I snuck back in the side door where the handlers wanted some rupees.
