Hogg Market, Kolkata
A vegetable market mysteriously populated only by men, and very little going on. Maybe it was after the rush? A cool old building. Kolkata was more different from the rest of India than anywhere else we've been. You can feel the history of forward thinking in the arts, literature, painting, filmmaking, in the air. Bombay and Dehli might feel more American with it's pants and malls and consumption, but Kokata is a more enlightened India, retaining what feels like its country's own identity. And the food was the best here.
