Varanasi is maybe the oldest living city in the world. It's on the Ganga, which for some reason you know as the Ganges, and is the holiest of holies. It's Shiva's second home. The dead reside accross the river, thus there is no city there. We found another observatory and a fairly bland street shot that doesn't capture the sewage or the cows or the touts or the smells. Or the 110 degree heat.

This city has an amazing collection of photos on Google Earth. It is the place most thought of, I think, by those who know little of India. (Formerly me!)
did you go swimming?
No way. The water is about 2,000 times more filthy than filthy water, really. I intend to at least touch it before we leave, after all it's said to cleanse you of your sins, though I admit to being afraid.
